Our Anniversay Trip to New York City
Brian and I took a trip through the base to NYC. We went to the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the 9-11 memorial. The bus took us through China Town were we hit a large amount of traffic but it was lots of fun to see all the people and the sites from the bus. We finally got to Battery Park around lunch time and boarded the Lady Liberty. We first went to Liberty Island. We went to the gift shop first and then walked around the Statue of Liberty. She really beautiful and it is an extremely tall statue. It was fun to hear all the different languages being spoken from the tourist. We took many pictures of the Statue of Liberty and the NYC skyline.
We re-boarded the ferry and went to Ellis Island. The building is so large it is a little over whelming. I had done some research before we got their about Ellis Island and I could only imagine what it would be like to get off a boat and go into this building. As I walked up the stairs to the registry Room. I thought about the inspectors marking people if they thought they had a physical or mental problem. It had to be unnerving to worry about receiving an X. Once we entered the Registry Room it was massive. So much bigger than I expected. The architecture was beautiful. It wasn't very loud in there even though there were lots of people. The curved ceiling seem to kept the noise down. We walked around and saw what we could before eating lunch and getting on the 3:30 ferry.
Before getting to the bus stop we walked around Battery Park. They had a Urban garden with a framers market. It was really neat. There were people dressed up to take pictures with the tourist, Street vendors selling food and NYC shirts. We bought a few.
We boarded the bus and drove the short distance to the 9-11memorial. We waited in line and went through security. When we walked in it was still very fenced off on the perimeter. It is very loud when you walk in from the waterfalls from the holes from where the North and South tower once were.I bent down to fix my pants and the noise went silent. I stood up again and it was very loud but below the names if you listen it is silent. It gave me goosebumps. There were many roses laying along names mostly around the section of Flight 93. We saw a large group of people around a tree, the survivor tree. It had a touching story and was interesting to see.
I had to wear glasses since I got Pink eye while we were at Forth Cliff earlier in the week. Very thankful the kids didn't get it!
Next adventure is to Wyoming for Milly and Blake's Wedding!
